((The University of Anbar examines the relationship between climate change and violent extremism in the governorate))
Under the supervision of the President of the University of Anbar, Mushtaq Talib Al_Nida, the center for strategi studies Strategic, in cooperation with UNDP and relevant governmental bodies, organized a participatory workshop for the 2025–2026 academic year titled “The Link between climate change and violent extremism in Anbar governorate.”
The workshop brought together representatives of government and security institutions, civil society organizations, and researchers to discuss how climate challenges such as water scarcity, desertification, and declining livelihoods affect social stability and security and may contribute to violent extremism.
Discussions also highlighted prevention and response strategies including sustainable development policies, strengthening local institutional capacity, raising community awareness and enhancing cooperation among academic, governmental, and international actors to promote stability and sustainable development in Anbar.
